Passionate Music Teacher in Polworth Edinburgh
Stephen Dennis is a teacher, composer and performer with over 15 years of experience. He graduated from Edinburgh University with an Honours degree in Music in 2007 before embarking on a career in education. In 2009, he was appointed Director of Music at Merchiston Castle School, where he still teaches.
Stephen has cultivated a passion for electronic music composition and production, which has seen him perform with the groups The Duke Detroit and Bird Cage Theatre; he studied Electronic music Production in Berlin in 2019 and has been releasing self-produced music under the title The Blet Project. His first release, Now Live (2016), was a self-produced autobiographical album that was described as “incredibly poignant writing”, with his band heralded as “one of the country’s most unparalleled electronic acts”. His second album, I AM, was released in October 2022
As a teacher, he has prepared students for NQ qualifications in Higher Music Technology, GCSE, and Advanced Higher Music. He has seen many of his students embark on successful music careers, pursue their studies at prestigious institutions such as Berklee College of Music (USA), Royal Northern College of Music, and Leeds College of Music, and form bands that would go on to release singles on Radio 1 and tour Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Stephen has taught piano and music theory to students of various ages and abilities, with many successfully completing graded exams and some successfully applying to music schools. Stephen continues to perform with the Scottish Band Bird Cage Theatre, where he plays piano and synthesiser. In 2023, Stephen performed his first solo performance of Live electronic music.
